Half an hour left of 2006. Haha just thought I’ll blog one final time this year.

The first half of the year was spent working at PWC in its tax department. I had income then. Yay. Then came june and july. Then school started.

It’s been the hardest year yet for me. In a lot of ways. But I’ve learnt a lot of things and grown a lot.

Made close friends. Never had such friends before. The sisters in the cell. Haha.

And God has been good to me. I just need a revelation. A vision, a rhema word. Some direction.

The service today was really good. The last service of the year. The message was very encouraging. It was on Mark 14, the part where Peter walked on water with Jesus. Jesus was on the shore and saw the disciples in the boat in the middle of a storm. He walked on water and would have passed them by. Then Peter called out to Him and asked Him to command him to walk on water with Him. Then he stepped out of the boat and walked. Halfway while walking, he saw the storm and was afraid, so he started to sink. But Jesus grabbed him as he was sinking and they went back to the boat together.

Jesus didn’t calm the storm. All the while, the storm was raging around them. In the same way, sometimes God doesn’t make perfect conditions for you. Even in the mist of the storm, wherever you are, you just have to trust God and step out of the boat… if you want to walk on water, do something great, be a history maker and a world shaker.

When Jesus called Peter to walk on water with Him, He knew that Peter might sink. He might fail in the process. Peter might have sank while trying to walk on water, but he was the only person in the history of mankind to walk on water other than Jesus. It is ok to fail, it is ok to sink sometimes, because to be a great achiever, you need to be able to accept defeats as well as success.

When Peter started to sink, Jesus grabbed him. He’s a God who saves. I’d rather be in the fiery furnace with the fourth man, Jesus, than to be out there out of the furnace without Him.

Hide me now, under Your wings.
Cover me within Your mighty hand.

When the oceans rise and thunders roar,
I will soar with You, above the storm
Father You are king over the flood,
I will be still and know You are God.

Find rest my soul in Christ alone,
Know his power, in quiteness and trust.

O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

I think this song is just simply magical. We sang it today while we held candles. And I think it really summarises everything that christmas is about. I really felt God’s love while singing it today. And this christmas, even though I was so busy, I still feel close to God. And it’s just great :) Happy Birthday my King and friend :)

I went carolling at Mount Elizabeth Hospital today. We all wore red, borrowed krys’s red vest again. We met at orchard mrt and went to daryl’s house to practice. Rushed down to Mount E after that in cabs.

Sarah was our conductor haha. She’s quite good, really funny. The way she asks us to smile will really bring a smile to my face :P We were introduced by the organisers as the chc choir :P Hahaha. First we sang in the cafeteria, then in 2 wards and then in the corridor of the children’s ward. In the cafeteria, a few people came up to her to tell her how good we were. Cool. Then in the first ward, we sang to basically 2 patients and staff and some family members. 1 patient from that ward requested us to be there. It was really fulfilling. When we were done, he thanked us and there were tears in his eyes. He was really happy that we were there to brighten up his day. It was quite touching.

Ya and at the children’s ward, there was a caucasian woman carrying a baby. She watched us sing and I heard from others that there were tears in her eyes too. Ya… first time carolling, not including the one at the children’s party.

Carolling is fun :) And yep I want to do it next year again!

leak in results December 19, 2006

The results leaked out on friday night. Apparently some website was linked wrongly so students could access their results for a time being. Final grade or not, I really have to thank God for my results.

Before university, I’ve always been doing well in my studies. I had the whole of saturday to study and almost the whole of sunday. I didn’t think of reaching out to my friends and so I made no effort to do so. And so I never really relied on God for anything. I did well because I studied.

This year though, things were a little different. My saturdays were mostly spent going for cell group meeting and then fellowship after that, or else rushing for services or doing misc stuff. My sundays were largely eaten up as well because it takes more time to travel to church and services were longer. After service, there was lunch and fellowship or events. During the weekdays, sometimes on tuesdays there were prayer meetings or toastmaster sessions. The rest of the time I didn’t know what I did but I didn’t spend a lot of time studying, even though I don’t watch TV anymore.

I wanted to give up on physical pharm. Even asked jac if I could just stop studying the day before but oh well, jac said no. For anatomy, I missed out on a lot of stuff. Physio, I felt really down halfway through the paper and wanted to just give up and stop doing, but since it was an mcq paper, I just carried on. For ppda, well, I can’t really remember but I didn’t have time to check anything. For reason and persuasion, I didn’t have time during the weekend to do many mcqs to practice. I didn’t even have time to finish reading my book. The practices I did were quite discouraging. Don’t look down on mcq papers.

What’s more amazing is that I’m up against a whole lot of smart people in my pharmacy class. A lot of them are a lot smarter than me. I can tell by just asking them questions and asking them to explain concepts to me.

I really expected to barely pass. The maximum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) is 5. I expected to just get a 3 plus if I was lucky. 2 plus if I wasn’t.

So really. It’s really by God’s grace that I managed to do well. It’s really a miracle. Because I couldn’t have done so well by my own effort. Praise the Lord. God is really faithful. He honors me when I honor Him. Even though I waver, even though I’m not always faithful, but God is. He’s never changing, He keeps His promises.

hong kong! December 7, 2006

Yep I’m in Hong Kong now. Left the country right after my last paper ended. The exams were ok…what can I say? I felt rather unprepared for almost every paper, so I just went in and did what I could, and hope for the best. I don’t know how I’m going to do. Oh well. Yay I’m in hong kong! This is the first time I’m in hong kong, not counting the time I was here while I was still in my mother’s stomach. Shopping! Food! Yay!

This is the first time I’m travelling overseas without my family on a holiday. Flew here with peijing, having yee ching and her sister as tour guides. Got to know both peijing and yee ching from pharmacy. Right after our exams ended, my mum came to fetch peijing and I to the airport. Flew here by Jetstar Asia. The seats were in rows of 3s, one row on the left and another on the right. I sat next to the window and peijing sat next to a friendly guy from china. She talked while I tried to understand. Couldn’t chip in haha. It was a bit cramped, not much room to move. Yee ching and her sis met us at the airport and took us back to her uncle’s vacant house.

The houses in hong kong are very small. There’s not much room inside to put furniture and to move around. But the flats are very very tall. Almost every building can be compared to a skyscraper. Hong kong has a space constraint :P Other than that, and the air quality, everything else about hong kong is just simply great! Yee ching brought us shopping on Tues. Bought 3 tops, 1 pair of boots, 3 rings, 3 belts, 1 necklace, 1 pair of jeans and 2 leg warmers for my cousin. I think that’s about it. Bought a gundam model set today! It’s a 1/100 model, and it only costs S$11 when the normal price back in singapore would be over $50.

And man, the food is so cheap lah. We ate at restaurants and what would normally cost a bomb in singapore was just about S$10 per person. And the food tastes nicer. I ate wanton noodles last night for supper, even though I ate it like an hour after I bought it, it still tasted warm and great. Didn’t get to try goose noodles but yee ching says they don’t normally sell goose noodles and wanton noodles everywhere like they did in the past. Man I’m going to miss hong kong food. I think I gained weight already. Haha.

The sights and the sounds are really quite interesting. There’s just so many people around in the streets. And the air quality is not very good. There’s like a constant haze. But the temperature is not bad, 19-22 degrees celsius, sometimes warmer.

Went to Ocean park yesterday. It was rather enjoyable. I sat on 2 rides, a swing thing which goes round and round in the air and something called the raging river which had a drop and a wet splash at the end. Thoroughly refused to take anything else. I don’t like roller coasters and anything thrilling :P  Haha oh we went to see jelly fish! They were so pretty! Different sorts of jelly fish. And we also went to see an aquariam-like fish exhibit thingy. Saw many many different kinds of fish, really really huge ones, sea horses, weird creatures etc. There was even this flashlight fish which could blink light in the dark. We also went to see the dolphin, sea lion show. Haha Ocean Park was fun.

Yesterday at night, yee ching brought us to see the Hong kong lights. Ah it was just fantastic. We were beside some body of water and we could see all the skyscrapers at the other side all lighted up with many different multi-coloured lights and in many different designs. Some even had christmas decorations on their facade. I can’t describe the view. It was simply breath-taking. By then, my camera had no more battery, so I think I’ll get the pics from yee ching. We were also in time for the laser light show! It was so so good. The Hong Kong tourism board deserves a round of applause! They synchronised the lights on the buildings and laser light from the top of about 5 buildings with vibrant music! It lasted about 15 minutes altogether. It was simply spectacular! So nice :)

I think I’ve taken about 3 modes of transport here. The buses, the LTR and the MTR. Very clean and efficient. No wonder someone wrote into the straitstimes forum not too long ago, comparing singapore’s transport system with hong kong’s. And complained about ours haha. The main language used here is cantonese. I can’t even speak chinese properly, I understand my own dialect, teochew, but I can’t speak it. So yee ching was our translator for the whole trip.

Well, it’s been a relaxing week for me. I haven’t enjoyed myself like this in such a long time. Tried not to think about the things in singapore and everything else which I normally worry and think about. Which is good. And it feels great not to think about those things. It feels great to be able to stone and let my mind not think about anything at all. Yep Hong kong is a really great place for a holiday =D
